Music plays a big part of all our lives, and isn't it always a particular song that we associate with events? Anyways, in a trial-run I've compiled what I listened to during my March trip to Boston and Toronto.
I may be slightly embarrased by my penchant for 80's music, or techno -- but hey, I'm getting old. That's what I grew-up on.

"Buzzing" along at 30,000...
When the fabulous deep Boston-accented flight attendant keeps re-filling your Gin & Tonic every 10 minutes, these songs from the Scissor Sisters album Ta Da sure make the flight fun! Love the funky, rythmic disco-esque with a dab of the Bee Gees sound, only modern.
All emo at 10,000...
When the G&T's wear off, you need some melancholy to guide your way. I love this little ditty from Sia, "Breath Me." It is multi-layered with piano, strings and beat. It's also the last song for the closing of the series Six Feet Under, which I thought was one of the best series enders ever. Anyways, this always gets you thinking...who knew I could be a sap
Boston here we come!
I always do a search for music with the name of my destination before I leave. Boston -- well, let's just say I'm not a fan of a particular band that kept coming up on those searches ;) Came across this from The Departed soundtrack, its the song "Shipping up to Boston" from The Dropkick Murphys. Great mix of Irish-y folk background and grinding vocals
Canadian 80's
When I thought of Toronto and looked at my music collection I thought "Canadian?!" Hmmm. But lo and behold -- I do have some famous 80's music from Canada-land. And it's so hysterical. Get out the parachute pants and jellies, boys and girls, it's Glass Tiger and Men Without Hats!
Powerful takeoff!
Don't give me crap about portable electronic devices on takeoff -- do you know how many cell phones are left on accidentally every day? I slipped my MP3 player back on during takeoff from Boston to Toronto. This is Yellowcard's "Lights and Sounds" from the album Lights and Sounds. They are a modern alternative band and when you first listen to the title track you might think "what the hell?" It starts off all soft and delicate and crap -- not what you may expect from the album. Oh, but this is a tease -- it revs-up into a guitar riff and keeps going -- ah! I timed it perfectly on this takeoff, too! Props to my fellow virtual air traffic controller Adam for this CD find.
Going out
Why this song popped into my head as I was walking around Toronto I have no idea. It's a really guilty-pleasure song from the early 90's and is about as close to rap as I get. K L F -- uh huh!
